This is the first "Ice Age" film or short in which Scrat doesn't make an appearance. Similarly, it's the first film not to feature the involvement of "Ice Age" creator, original director and Scrat voice actor Chris Wedge. The former instance was due to Disney losing the rights to the character in 2020 after a longtime legal battle with designer Ivy Supersonic. The legal rights were subsequently resolved, as a series revolving around the character, titled L'era glaciale: I racconti di Scrat (2022), was announced soon after.
