S03E01 "Palm Springs Getaway" has many similarities to the John Candy film The Great Outdoors (1988). Gus and Mickey are relunctant to stay in seedy accomodations alongside Bertie and Randy, just as John Candy and his family are relunctant to stay in an unkempt getaway with Dan Aykroyd and his family in The Great Outdoors. Both productions also feature the main cast arriving and departing in a Jeep Grand Wagoneer.
