The visual of the Paulson nebula is the same visual used for the Mutara nebula in Star Trek II - L'ira di Khan (1982). It was created by placing a plastic sheet over a transparent acrylic tank half-filled with fresh water, adding a layer of salt water, shining colored lights through it, then pulling out the sheet and stirring it in a circle.
