Although it has long been one of ITV's top-rated prime time shows, Emmerdale Farm (as it was then known) was originally shown in the afternoons, and did not begin moving to prime time slots until 1978. Even then, this was inconsistent across the UK due to the relative autonomy of regional ITV companies at the time. It was 1988 before the show had a UK-wide prime time slot.
