Although according to the novels by Lee Child, Jack Reacher served thirteen years in the United States Army Military Police Corps. He was "mustered out" and honorably discharged at the rank of Major. However, in the series and in all of the Reacher books Reacher being RETIRED has never been explained.Reacher went to West Point and you do not receive time toward retirement for the time in the academy. So, Reacher only had 13 years in and thus does not meet the requirements for the basic 20-year retirement. Nothing has ever been mentioned about a medical retirement.
