Bayona explained about the opening rainstorm and Jack the mercenary wearing a yellow raincoat, "Every time you reference a line or character or location, it creates an impact in the audience, there are several ideas in the film to create the connection. You start with the prologue and you have the rain, the nighttime, the yellow raincoats. That connects the whole thing."
