Despite her nickname, Anne of Austria (born Ana Maria Mauricia) was a Spanish princess born and raised in Spain, the daughter of King Philip III of Spain and Margaret of Austria. She held the titles of Infanta of Spain and of Portugal. She is often referred to as "Anne of Austria" because the Spanish royal family belonged to the senior branch of the House of Austria, which later became known as the House of Habsburg. She became Queen consort of France at the age of 14 when she married 14-year-old King Louis XIII in November 1615. She never spoke English as the movie shows. She spoke French with a heavy Spanish accent according to historians. She was 26 years old in 1627, the year the movie is set in.
