When coming up with the final character model for Superman, Bruce Timm asked Dan Riba for help coming up with the profile for Superman's design. Riba thought Timm's Superman design kind of looked like Hercules design from L'invincibile Ercole (1963) and brought in some old tapes for Timm to see. Timm though Hercules did look a lot like his Superman design and that seeing the old tapes was helpful to make the turn/profile of Superman and finalize the design.
