In two instances, actors who played recurring characters on Elementary died soon after their characters were killed off on the show. The character of Alistair died in the episode "No Lack of Void," which aired on April 10, 2014; on July 10, 2015, the actor who played Alistair, Roger Rees, died of stomach cancer at age 71. The character of Shinwell died in the episode "Moving Targets," which aired on May 7, 2017; the actor who played Shinwell, Nelsan Ellis, died on July 8, 2017 at the age of 39.
