Both David Naughton and Griffin Dunne recall telling director John Landis that the lack of silver bullets used to kill David meant he could have survived, and this could become a franchise. The director told them in no uncertain terms that there would be no sequel. Ironically, Landis himself later considered making the sequel Un lupo mannaro americano a Parigi (1997), but the studio passed on his ideas, and the final film doesn't continue David's story.
