Many of the show's cast members had previously collaborated with David Lynch before the series was filmed. Jack Nance (Pete Martell) played the lead in Eraserhead and had minor roles in both Dune and Blue Velvet, Kyle MacLachlan (Dale Cooper) played lead roles in Dune and Blue Velvet, Frank Silva (Bob) worked on the set of Dune, Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart, Catherine E. Coulson (The Log Lady) did assistant camera work on the set of Eraserhead. Everett McGill (Big Ed Hurley), Grace Zabriskie (Sarah Palmer) and Charlotte Stewart (Betty Briggs) also had small roles in Lynch's early work.
