Chevy Chase was considered for the role of Harry Sultenfuss, but since he didn't have much experience acting in dramatic roles, producer Brian Grazer suggested Dan Aykroyd to director Howard Zieff instead as he had more experience, fresh off of an Oscar nomination for A spasso con Daisy (1989). However, Aykroyd and Chase were both on Il Saturday Night Live (1975), and the they had also co-starred with each other in Spie come noi (1985) and Nient'altro che guai (1991).
