This movie was part of a massive renaissance in popularity for the works of Jane Austen in the mid 1990s due to highly successful screen adaptations, along with the BBC's television version of Orgoglio e pregiudizio (1995) (which made a big star of Colin Firth) and Gwyneth Paltrow's Emma (1996).
