Though "Something to Sing About" is one of James Cagney's more obscure films, he devoted an entire chapter of his autobiography to it because it was the only musical he got to make between "Footlight Parade" and "Yankee Doodle Dandy." In the book, he said he always considered himself a song-and-dance man at heart and his one regret about his career was he had got to do so few musicals.
