Even with the commercial breaks being accounted for, the film was initially considered too short to be aired on television and fit the allotted time schedule, so the filmmakers were forced to shoot extra scenes to pad out the run time, dragging the film's length to 132 minutes. Such scenes include the bowling alley scene with Sue, Tommy, Chris, and Billy; the classroom scene where Carrie telekinetically cracks her desk and bends her ruler; the drugstore scene with Carrie and Sue; and the gym class scene where Chris confronts Carrie and tries to gaslight her and turn her against Sue.
