During the scene in which the Hammerpede erupts from Millburn's corpse, Sir Ridley Scott did not inform Kate Dickie about what was to occur in the scene, and thus her screaming reaction was real. This trick for authenticity went one step further than what Scott did during the filming of the infamous chestburster scene from Alien (1979), where the cast knew that something would come out of the body, but not that they would be sprayed in blood.
