New Line Cinema wanted Sir Peter Jackson to start the movie with a prologue done by Cate Blanchett recapping the events of the previous movie. Jackson resisted this, as he wanted to get back into the action immediately, and thought that most viewers would still remember prior events. Ironically, a year earlier, New Line Cinema had insisted on a prologue to open the first movie, but disagreed with the length and narration by Blanchett, something that Jackson had to convince the studio of.
