In the film, the missile which the Riddler launches from the submarine is a "UGM-27 Polaris". In real-life, the Polaris was a solid-fueled nuclear-armed submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM). It was the first type of SLBM ever used by the United States Navy, remaining in service from 1961 to 1980.
