With his motorcycle, black leather trench coat and pursuit of Kovacs (Jeff Goldblum) through the art museum, the character of Jopling (Willem Dafoe) is clearly inspired by that of Gromek (Wolfgang Kieling) from Alfred Hitchcock's Torn Curtain.
