When Dr. Edward Newgate (Jim Sturgess) is dining the first night in the asylum, he points out the irony of the groundskeepers name, Mickey Finn (David Thewlis) and the reference to slipping someone a Mickey, a drug in their drink. The term "slip someone a Mickey" was most likely coined after a real man named Mickey Finn from Chicago, Illinois, who, in 1903 was arrested when it surfaced that he would drug and rob patrons of his inn.
