Throughout the series, Supergirl and Superman are depicted as being somewhat paranoid about kryptonite, with Superman refusing to work with the DEO until they turn over their supply of the substance, and Supergirl being personally offended that Lena Luthor has a supply and can also synthesize it. This attitude is not consistently kept, however, as Oliver Queen and Alex Danvers are both shown using kryptonite weapons, supposedly after Superman confiscated all the kryptonite. Neither is ostracized or confronted for doing so, possibly because both Supergirl and Superman have fallen prey to mind control and Kara has encountered evil twins of herself (Overgirl, Red Daughter, Bizarro), illustrating the need for human heroes to have a weapon they can fall back on to defeat Kryptonians.
