This movie marks the third time Sting, Bilbo's silver sword, is featured in the theatrical poster alongside the title character, following Lo Hobbit - Un viaggio inaspettato (2012) and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013), thus making its appearance more than key characters of the trilogy, Gandalf The Grey and Thorin Oakenshield, who were only seen in the poster of the second installment. It is also seen used by Frodo on the poster for Il Signore degli Anelli - Il ritorno del re (2003), meaning it has appeared on four posters in the whole franchise.
