Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson, who were both considered for the role of Hades, had previously costarred in Batman (1989) as Batman (Keaton) and Joker (Nicholson). Coincidentally, James Woods was also a candidate for the role of the Joker. Danny DeVito played the Penguin in the sequel Batman - Il ritorno (1992).
