In their first conversation, Batman explains to a clueless Chase Meridian that bats are not rodents (as she believed). He is actually referring to taxonomy, biological classification. Rodents are members of the order "Rodentia", and their shared trait is "a single pair of continuously growing incisors in each of the upper and lower jaws.". Bats are members of the order "Chiroptera", and their shared traits are wings and elongated digits. They are neither closely related in phylogeny, nor particularly similar in morphology.
