Boys Town was founded in Omaha in 1917, then moved about ten miles west of the city in 1921. In 1920 Omaha had a population of 191,601 and was the 34th largest city in the United States. Boys Town is still at that 1921 location, but is surrounded by Omaha and its suburbs as the city grew.
