Akeelah's bedroom desktop computer is a custom-built personal computer, consisting of a 1994 17" NEC MultiSync 5FG VGA CRT monitor originally designed for Macintosh and later for Windows 95/98, a Micro Innovations KB400i 108-key keyboard designed for Windows XP, and a Micro Innovations PD450P Optical Scroll mouse. If you look closely during the montage of Akeelah taking lessons from Dr. Larabee through the radio, when she is on the computer, it clearly appears to display a Classic-themed Windows XP desktop.
