King George's toast to Oxford, with the words "Peace in our time", is a reference to a real quote by British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain. Just before World War II, Chamberlain had negotiated a deal with Adolf Hitler in an attempt to appease him. As war did break out, the words "peace in our time" became ironic, just as in the film, with the war raging on.
