Empress Wan Jung's tutor, who is not depicted in the film, was Isabel Ingram. Ingram and Reginald Fleming Johnston were both employed at the Forbidden City at the same time. In the wedding night sequence, Wan Jung refers to her old tutor as Miss Winter.
