John Astin, starting in 1986, had a recurring role as Buddy Ryan, ostensibly Harry's stepfather, who was later revealed to actually be his biological father. In real life, actor Sean Astin believed John was his biological father, but in 1985, when he was 14, he learned John was his stepfather, a near direct reversal of the plot line from the show.
