Gilda Radner was almost cast as Shirley. Who knows if Radner would have shot to fame in Saturday Night Live if this happened; since she performed on SNL from 1975-1980; and Laverne and Shirley filmed it's spinoff episode in Happy Days; "A Date With Fonzie"; in 1975 also.
