The final scene, in which Lucas returns to school a "hero" and gets the letterman's jacket, was re-shot in one day. It was set in the fall, but shot on a cold day in December 1985. Extras had to wear shorts and t-shirts. The extras' breath could be seen outside, so the cinematographer put gels on the windows to obscure it. Shooting started at 7:00 am, and wrapped well after midnight.
