The movie's first shot is of David's open eye staring right into the camera, exactly like the opening shots of Blade Runner (1982) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017). Ridley Scott directed Blade Runner and ultimately produced Blade Runner 2049 (though he was originally intent on directing the sequel but did Alien Covenant instead and gave the reins to Denis Villeneuve). Alien Covenant has multiple references to Blade Runner.
