Paul Éluard's poem "Liberté" from the collection "Au Rendez-vous Allemand" (first published 1942) features prominently in Maps to the Stars (2014). Éluard (1895 - 1952) was a French poet and one of the founders of the surrealist movement. The poem "Liberté" was adapted by Bruce Wagner and David Cronenberg and is cited (in parts) by multiple characters including Agatha Weiss, Benjie Weiss and Clarice Taggart in her role in 'Stolen Waters'. Since the fictional feature 'Stolen Waters' is a well-known classic in the world of Maps to the Stars (2014) and Agatha Weiss is characterized as a huge fan of the film, it is very likely that 'Stolen Waters' is supposed to be the original source of her knowledge of the poem "Liberté". Agatha Weiss might have sent her brother Benjie Weiss the printed poem, that he secretly reads at night, in a letter.
