Joanna Hogg always had the plan to make two parts since she started working on the story. The only question was to shoot both of them back to back or to shoot one first and then shoot the other. At a September 28, 2021 screening and Q&A at the Aero Theatre in Los Angeles, Hogg stated that she wanted to shoot them simultaneously but had to wait a year because they couldn't come up with the funding all at once. On the plus side, during the gap year she came up with more ideas for Part II.
