The concept of Thor and Jane fighting together against an common foe each with their own hammer with one previously damaged is based on the 2019 Marvel crossover event "War of the Realms" where Jane wields the Mjolnir that belonged to the Thor from the Ultimate Marvel universe (which was the inspiration for the design of Stormbreaker in the MCU films). Also similar to the film the Ultimate Marvel Mjolnir was shown damaged due to its previous destruction, similar to the Mjolnir in this film. In both of these storylines the damaged hammer was wielded by Jane.
