Though both of their characters feuded, on-camera, both Sherman Hemsley and Marla Gibbs got along great, with each other, off-camera. When the series went off the air, they have kept in touch for years, and were looking forward to working together for other projects, and nothing came up on the horizon, when unexpectedly, Hemsley passed away on July 24, 2012.
