Writer Lee Goldberg, a writer on the series, also wrote a series of 19 novels based on the Monk characters. The first 10 books coincide with the television show. In the beginning of those books, the author lets the readers know where the novel falls in the series time-line. Books 11 through 19 take place right after the television show ends, and eventually sees Adrian Monk and Natalie Teager parting ways as Natalie decides on a career change.
