A scene was filmed, but deleted which Alfred reveals Barbara is his adopted niece. Alfred explains to Bruce and Dick that he met Barbara's mother in Metropolis and they began a relationship. After the relationship ended, Barbara's mother met and married a musician. After Barbara's parents died, Alfred adopted Barbara as his own niece and began supporting her and Barbara flew over to England to study at Oxbridge Academy.
