Charlize Theron said that after she first auditioned for Taylor Hackford, she was told he and Warner Brothers execs thought she was too pretty for the role. But he let her screen test three more times playing different very emotional scenes. She said it was a draining experience that took about two months. But it paid off and they finally cast her.
