Skeet Ulrich has said in interviews that he had no idea he was in a horror-comedy; for most of the time when they were shooting it. He just thought he was in a straight horror movie; as his role was mostly serious throughout. And then Matthew Lilliard, who mostly serves as comic relief in this movie until the ending, would say a line very comedically, and Ulrich would ask Wes Craven why he and Jamie Kennedy were so silly and over the top. Craven would then remind him the movie was partly comedic and satiric; it was not a straight horror movie.
