Though the series is meant to be canon with the Wesley Snipes films, it retcons how Whistler came to know Blade. In the first film, Blade (1998), Whistler tells a story of how he found Blade on the streets when he was 13 and had been feeding off of homeless people. In the series, however, Blade is introduced to Whistler by his father when he was a pre-teen (not much older than 10) who was seeking help with Blade's constant need to feed. It's also shown that Blade is the reason for Whistler's limp.
