The film is named after the proverbial Greek phrase "Diavolou kaltsa" (Devil's sock). It literally means someone fiendishly clever. It derives from an old superstition that if babies are equipped with black socks created out of the Devil's hair, they will grow up to become both extremely clever and extremely lucky.
