During the welcoming day at school, one of the students is reading the novel "Dangerous Liaisons". Sarah Michelle Gellar (the Headmaster) played Kathryn Merteuil in Cruel Intentions, the modern-take on Stephen Frears' Dangerous Liaisons (1988), and actually the director rewrote the Headmaster's lines once she knew Gellar was playing her to make the character sound more like Kathryn. On top of that Maya Hawke's mother, Uma Thurman, starred in Dangerous Liaisons.
