On December 10th, 2014, Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan announced that the film would not be released theatrically in Japan, as live-action comedies do not often perform well in the market. In the Asia-Pacific region, the film would be released theatrically only in Australia and New Zealand. However, the film did release on other mediums across the region after the theatrical window went by, something which went unreported by the Western mainstream media.
