Screenwriter Jon Spaihts wrote the first screenplay during many talks with director Sir Ridley Scott, often having to change days worth of writing when Scott proposed a new idea. While trying to keep track of Scott's wishes for the story, Spaihts created a sort of boardgame with locations in the movie, and boardpieces representing the characters that he could move around.
