In the original theatrical release of Blade Runner (1982), it is mentioned that Rachael was created without a termination date, so that she may have a life span equal to a human like Deckard; however, in the movie's Final Cut, it is implied that Rachael has the same 4-year life span as the Nexus 6 Replicants, and it is more strongly hinted that Deckard himself is a Replicant with an open-ended life span. In line with director Denis Villeneuve's wish to make Blade Runner 2049 a sequel to both the Theatrical and Final Cut of Blade Runner (1982), Rachael is revealed to have died during childbirth before she could have reached her potential termination date, and it is never explicitly stated whether Deckard is human or Replicant.
