Of the three main Predators, Scar is the only one to be seen without his mask. As the script required a greater amount of interaction with the character Lex Woods, a wider range of subtle facial movements were built into the character's animatronic face mask. The creature's facial skin tones were also made more human and less amphibian, to help audiences associate and bond with the character. Although the design drew a lot of criticism because its skin is much smoother compared to previous movies, this was a deliberate choice, since this Predator is supposed to be a much younger specimen, especially when compared to the Elder Predator that turns up at the end. The full purpose of the pyramid's manhood ritual is never explained, but since the Elder's helmet is also adorned with a Xenomorph mark, it is implied that he was the winner of the hunting ritual that occurred a century before, which gave him a high-ranking position within the Predator hierarchy.
