At the end Dr. Chilton træls Lecter that a female FBI agent is there to see him. It is clearly a nod to the books. The book The Red Dragon precedes The Silences of the Lambs. The female agent Dr. Child in talk about is clearly Agent Clarice Starling who is a main character in the second book as well as the film based on it.
