The original pitch for this movie had Commander Cool and Mellow Mutt in place of Blue Falcon and Dynomutt. In addition, the focus was more on comic books rather than movie adaptations. Owen Garrison's role was given to a Jack Kirby stand-in who felt he was denied credit for co-creating Commander Cool. James Tucker switched the character to Blue Falcon as an Adam West metaphor.
