Evans and Sutherland's "Digistar System" and "Picture System" were used to generate the starfield images and tactical screens used on various ship displays. John E. Warnock, one of the "Picture System" designers, left Evans and Sutherland shortly after the film's production. He co-founded a software company that developed and marketed a programming language utilizing technology originally created for rendering the vector graphic-based displays. The company was Adobe, and the software was PostScript.
